Awesome!

Started up a couple new batches.  IPA (OG 1.056), and a Blonde (OG 1.047).  Both batches seemed to go pretty smooth, although there were some initial temp issues with the IPA mash… took us a little too long to get the temp up to 152 degrees.  Nonetheless, we feel good about the batch.

Had some great dinner with Dre and Cheri afterwards, then came home to watch True Blood.  Seems like there are too many story lines going on this season… your thoughts?

Figured I’d add a picture of the Murph Dog too… he was sleepy all day, which was nice.

Shenanigans at the Brit from Friday after golfing.

Hit up the 9-hole in Scotts Valley.  Love that little course… and was actually doing really well until I got to the 5th hole and realized that I’d only had one two beers.  Naturally, along with more beer consumption came more missed shots.  Still beat those guys… and afterwards we hit up the Brit to share a few more pitchers (and sing a little karoake - “If this is it” by the great Huey).

Saturday morning was rough… but it’s the price you pay for good times.

Did some beer tasting yesterday to see just how well our two batches of Pale Ale stand up.  In the photo’s shown here, we have our kegged Pale Ale using 60L Malt with longer and heavier hop additions, and our bottled Pale Ale that has the ingredients shown in a previous post.  Just for fun, I picked up some Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, and some Kona Pale Ale to taste along with them.

Throw in the USA vs Canada Gold Cup game (and later the NBA Finals) in the background and it was a good time.  Beer was very nice… will do some minor tweaks, but overall was very pleased with them.

Note to self though… beer tasting on a work night can lead to trouble.  Ultimately it was a night of beer consumption, good conversation about golfing and BS in general, along with sports on the TV in the background (Good win for the US, nice dominating performance over a team they should beat).  That is usually a recipe for a rough work morning.  It was worth it though…

Bottle/Kegging

So we just bottled and kegged the first two batches of the All Grain Pale Ale’s.  Came up with two very hoppy recipe’s with some variations to really work on where we need to be.  Waited a little long to finally do this as busy schedules usually reign supreme these days… but they should be ready to drink in 1-2 weeks (hopefully).

Planning to do a taste testing party when ready… pictures and more info to follow.

Just finished up my first all grain batch. Made an American Pale Ale. We shall see how it turns out… Tentatively calling it Section314 PA.
Used 9# pale malt, 1# 40L crystal malt, 1# Munich. 1.5oz German Perle hops for 60 minutes, 1oz Cascade hops for 10 minutes and adding another ounce of Cascades for the last 3 minutes. Finished it up with CA Ale Yeast, and planning to dry hop with a 3rd ounce of Cascades as well. Ended up with a 1.056 OG.

I’m not gonna lie, this is one of the best beers I’ve ever had.

Don’t even feel like I would do it justice by giving a description of it’s taste… But I will say that I highly recommend you drink this beer!

Just finished up the Mash Tun, so now it’s time to start doing all grain batches.

The plan? Well, the plan is to mess with Pale Ale recipe’s all Summer long. Once the combo is right, it’ll be time to make a bunch… Which I’m hoping is just in time for the upcoming Raiders season (and I’m not buying this lockout canceling the season… Too much money on the line to not have a season this year).

Section 314 should have some nice beer rolling this year.
